Moments after Weerasekara told the House during the adjournment debate that the permission granted to sing the national anthem in Tamil was unconstitutional, Perera strongly criticized him for the remarks.
Perera commented that his party recognized the Tamils’ right to sing the national anthem in their own language.
However, Weerasekara says the SLFP has taken no such decision, adding that an extensive dialogue should take place on this matter, rather than promoting individuals opinions.
Already, the media in the south is taking up this matter over all other issues in the country.
Digamadulla district MP Sarath Weerasekara says a complaint will be lodged to the president today (22) against SLFP media spokesman Dilan Perera.
