He has mentioned this during a discussion with party leaders on electoral reforms, which was held at Parliament complex.
Reports say that many parties represented the yesterday’s meeting including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The elections commissioner has said that if a new electoral system is introduced, at least a year's time should be given to create public awareness on this regard.
He has said that it is prudent to reserve such a time period when introducing a new electoral system in order for the general public to get used to it.
He also had taken the challenge with his staff to implement the new system soon, if the Parliament is to pass new laws in this regard.
He has also agreed to table a report today (18) on implementing a new electoral system.
