The recent transfers ordered by president Maithripala Sirisena have not been implemented with regard to certain officers, say defence ministry sources.

An order in that regard given by the secretary to the president on February 13 to the then Army commander was yet to be implemented, even under the new chief.

The order was for the recalling of Wanni commander Maj. Gen. Boniface Perera to the headquarters.

Perera joined the Army in 1981 as a cadet officer, and was the commanding officer of the 52 and the 22 brigades of Sinha Regiment.

During the Wanni offensive, he was in charge of the 4th Sinha Regiment to take Kilinochchi.

He is a defence management diploma holder from Devi Ahilya University in India and following special training in China, was posted to the Wanni as its commander.
