Chinese diplomat calls Sujeewa over critical comments

Deputy Justice and Labour Relations Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe has received a telephone call from a senior official of the Chinese embassy over comments made by him on Chinese funded projects in Sri Lanka.

Senasinghe says that he received a somewhat threatening call from the deputy at the Chinese embassy in Colombo.

Participating in the Janahanda political interview, the deputy minister said that the Chinese diplomat had telephoned him and asked him to stop making critical comments about China and its projects in Sri Lanka.

Senasinghe has continuously criticized the Chinese funded mega projects that were launched by the Rajapaksa regime, pointing out the massive interest rates the loans from the projects have been obtained.

However, Senasinghe has told the Chinese diplomat that he had no right to speak in such a manner and that intimidation would not be tolerated. The deputy minister has added that the relevant Chinese companies need to be transparent about the transactions if everything was in order.
