Public can question the President through reforms

Presidential Advisor on Constitutional Affairs Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne says the proposed constitutional reforms will see the appointment of two new commissions including a national audit commission.

Dr. Wickramaratne has told the media that once the proposed constitutional reforms are implemented by parliament, any citizen will have the right to question the President. The head of state would therefore be held accountable even by the public.

The Presidential Advisor has further stated that when appointments are made to the Supreme Court or Appeal Court, the Constitutional Board should consult the Chief Justice, Minister of Justice, Attorney General and Chairman of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.

According to Dr. Wickramaratne, the proposed reforms also include proposals presented by the opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) as well.
