He notes that the deposits have been made by leaders of the former government and top officials.

According to Karunanayake, the estimated budget deficit for 2015 was Rs. 521 billion and the money in the foreign accounts are sufficient to bridge 75 per cent of the country’s budget deficit.  

The Minister has told the Sunday Times that the three countries had cooperated in the initial investigations and the names of the account holders would be disclosed.
