Ports and Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunge has ordered the immediate halt of the illegal digging carried out in lands under the purview of the Trincomalee Port.
The Minister has issued the directive since the earth in the area is being dug without carrying out a proper feasibility study or an environment impact assessment.
Ranatunge has acted on a complaint received during a recent inspection tour of the Trincomalee port.
