Navy extortionists kill 28 Featured

Nine Navy officers, including three high ranking officers, are to be arrested by the CID in connection with the murder of 28 Tamil youths who had been abducted with the intention of seeking ransom.

‘Navy Sampath’ has been identified as the main suspect.

Some of the abducted youths had been killed after obtaining the ransom money.

All the abductions had taken place between 2008 and 2011 from Kotahena, Bluemendhal, Mt. Lavinia, Wellawatte, Bambalapitya and several other areas.

Among them were five youths from Mt. Lavinia and a man and his son from Kotahena, investigations have revealed.

The abducted youths had been kept at the navy camps at Trincomalee and Chaitya Road in Colombo.

Upon the inspection of the office room of one of the top navy officers involved, the CID found the identity cards and a passport of five youths, all of whom had been abducted and murdered.

One of the suspects is overseas following a navy course, and the CID says he would be brought home.

All information regarding the killing of 11 of the 28 youths has now come to light.

|Meanwhile, top officials in the navy and in the legal field are trying to protect the suspects, reports say.
