She was speaking to the media at the National Child Protection Authority in Madiwela today (19).
The state minister said strong action would be taken to eliminate child abuse, for which task, attorney Natasha Balendra has been appointed chairperson and attorney Sajiva Samaranayake as deputy chairman of the NCPA.
She also said that she has held discussions with prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and justice minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa regarding shortcomings in the child protection act.
Speaking here, the NCPA chairperson said she would not disappoint the public in carrying out out her duties, which she hopes to do without any political interference.
Focus would be on how to prevent children from becoming victims of abuse, she said.
