PM releases Frontline magazine stock

Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered to release the Frontline magazine stock which was seized by Sri Lanka Customs.

The seized stock contained the 30th anniversary issue of the Indian magazine.

For their 30th anniversary, the magazine had included a special article which featured several interviews published in the past, to portray political trends of the Asian region during the past three decades.

The interviews also included one done with former LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in 1987 and due to this, the Customs has sought further advice before releasing the magazine.

It has been decided to release the magazine stock as the re publication of the interview posed no threat to national security, reports say.

The Prime minister has also instructed the Customs to seek the advice of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information, should similar situations arise in the future.
