The new appointees, who are loyal to former Army chief Sarath Fonseka, had been recommended by ministers Champika Ranawaka and Rajitha Senaratne.

According to reports reaching ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, the appointments, as announced by the secretary to the president, were made without the knowledge of the prime minister.

Meanwhile, the defence ministry says there is no truth to reports that a new Army commander has been appointed.
