It has now transpired that Air Force pilots had flown the helicopter hired from former Rajapaksa regime’s ministry supervising MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena by Hayleys that had given helicopters at discount rates to Cairns Lanka for its explorations for oil in the island.

The Bell 412 had been flown by six AF pilots, which is an illegal act, as they are barred from flying private helicopters.

The then defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, top AF officials are implicated in this wrongdoing, reports say.

Sajin Vaas has obtained the helicopter in question from India’s Global Vectra.

There is a rumour that top AF officials had been given bribes for this Hayleys deal.
