Missing files at Finance Ministry hamper probe

Over 2,600 missing files at the Finance Ministry has posed a problem to officials in carrying out some investigations.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that around 2,600 important files have gone missing from the Ministry making it difficult to carry out investigations.

He observed that these files were related to alleged financial misappropriation, corrupt practices, misuse of public property and funds of top level officials during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.

The Finance Ministry is to now hand over the investigation to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to find the missing files and the persons responsible for misplacing them.
