While all members of the National Executive Council have agreed to the abolition of the Executive Presidency the Council has discussed the allocation of some interim powers to President Maithripala Sirisena until the position is abolished.

Members of the National Executive Council have also agreed to limit the term of parliament to five years, re-implement the 17th Amendment to the Constitution and to cancel the parliamentary seats of members who cross over.
