Geneva report on Lanka must be released – TNA Featured

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) maintains that the report on the investigation carried out by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Sri Lanka should be released next month as scheduled.

Senior TNA MP R. Sampanthan has been quoted in BBC Sandeshaya as saying that the report has to be released without any delay.

He has said the matter had been discussed with members of the international community including representatives from the US and the UK.

Sampanthan has noted that the report has to be released as outlined in the resolution adopted in 2014.

He has added that the international community should also focus on the domestic mechanism on accountability being spoken of by the new government, which it says will be carried out with the assistance of the international community.

According to Sampanthan, the Tamil people in the country need to see an end to the injustices faced by them in the past few years and that peace and reconciliation should be built based on understanding and equality.
