Urea infused tea hospitalises 27 students

Twenty seven students have been rushed to the Negombo Hospital after consuming tea laced with urea, reports say.

The students, aged betwen 16-21 are technical trainees staying at a community service centre hostel.

Police say that urea has been added to their tea instead of sugar by mistake.

Investigations have revealed that urea bags for plants have been stocked near the tea and sugar stocks donated to the community service centre. A student has reportedly mistaken a urea packet for sugar and handed it over to the centre's kitchen.

Speaking to media, a hospital spokesperson said that the students are not in a critical condition.
