Ms. Kumaratunga has already informed the President that if Rajapaksa, a corrupt individual who had destroyed the SLFP is given a prominent role at the next SLFP executive committee which will convene on Feb. 14, she would take a stern decision.
Of late, Ms. Kumaratunga has been summoning SLFP MPs to lengthily discuss measures required to safeguard the party.
MR as PM candidate?
Meanwhile, four parties of the UPFA coalition have agreed that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be fielded as the Prime Ministerial candidate at the forthcoming General election.
The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna led by Dinesh Gunawardena, National Freedom Front led by Wimal Weerawansa, the Democratic Left Front led by Vasudewa Nanayakkara and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya led by Udaya Gammanpila are maintaining this stance.
These parties are to hold a public rally in Nugegoda on Feb 18, under the theme of 'Mahinda Samaga Rata Dinawamu' (Let us bring victory to the country with Mahinda).
