The government and opposition have decided to limit the no confidence motion against Public Order minister John Amaratunga to the agenda without taking it up for debate or vote, reports say.

The no confidence motion, tabled over the minister's alleged involvement in connection with the recent assault on the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was handed over to the Speaker yesterday (07) by the parliamentary group of the UPFA led by opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva.

The motion had 114 signatures of parliamentarians.

Speaking, MP John Seneviratne of the UPFA parliamentary group said that the motion was tabled not only because of the Wattala PS incident but after considering the many incidents of assault reported islandwide after the Presidential election.
