A spokesman of the Democratic Party told srilankamirror that they would be deciding over the ensuing weeks on whether to contest the election on its own or team up with the UPFA or the United National Party (UNP).

It is also reported that General Sarath Fonseka has been unhappy over a move made by a UNP Minister to persuade MP Jayantha Kategoda not to resign his seat in Parliament that would make way for him (Fonseka).
