He has been identified as 36 year old Priyantha Premaratne, said to be a very committed and duty conscious cop.

He is now undergoing treatment at the Vanuniya hospital.

Premaratne was on night patrol near the Pavakkulama Lake when he was shot by an unidentified attacker.

Police have launched a hunt for the assailant.
