He made the charge in a statement issued to the media.

"Let us unite to safeguard the security and unitary status of the country and this is an appeal to all patriotic Sri Lankans", the statement said under the theme "Join hands to treasure the freedom and independence that we won".

"The freedom we won by defeating the Tigers on May 18, 2009 must be safeguarded and we must make sure to be prepared to face another situation where our freedom will be challenged again. We should all together stand up against foreign intervention and ensure that we build a country that is free of crime and where a healthy economy can be nurtured that will leave no room for separatists to come up with their agenda", the statement further added.
