What the Interim Budget has for the people Featured

New Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake is scheduled to present the Interim Budget in Parliament this afternoon (January 29) in keeping with President Maithripala Sirisena's 100-day project.

Following are the relief measures the people are hoping to receive from the Interim Budget.

1) The price of 10 essential food items to reduced

2) Monthly Samurdhi (poverty relief) to be increased by two fold

3) The first segment of a salary increase of Rs.10,000 in the form of Rs 5000 to be paid from February 1 to all Public and State sector employees.

4) Monthly payment of Rs. 3500 to all pensioners as an Interim measure until all anomalies are sorted out

5) Increase of interest rate to 15 percent for first 10 lakhs of deposits by senior citizens.

6) Rs.1500 monthly allowance for poor senior citizens.
