Speaking at the event, Minister of Public Order - John Amaratunga said that the investigation on the incident would be reinitiated.
On August 01, 2013 the military opened fire on residents of Rathupaswala who held a protest demonstration urging autorities to close down a rubber glove production factory in the area. Three youths were killed while 26 others were grieviously injured.
Speaking further today, the minister also said that the he was well aware that the Brigardier who allegedly ordered the military to shoot the Rathupaswala protest in 2013, was sent abroad to a highly-placed diplomatic post by the previous regime.
The minister said that the Brigardier would be recalled as well.
During today's protest, the residents also urged to provide a compensation for those who were physically disabled after being shot in 2013.
