The MPs have reportedly called for a similar mechanism that exists in the United National Party (UNP), where the party leader and party chair are two separate portfolios.

The group hopes such a move to be followed by measures to contest the upcoming General election under a 'Maithri-Chandrika operation' and to establish a government with a SLFP majority.
