Making a special statement to 'BBC Sandeshaya', Weerawansa says that he will build up the political leadership needed to topple power of the current government and the UNP at the forthcoming General Elections.

Basil, a reason for defeat

Weerawansa has also said that the conduct of Basil Rajapaksa was also a major factor that led to the defeat of the former President.

As measures were not taken to prevent Basil's monopolist-like conduct, it was unable to dismiss neopotism claims, he has added.

Although the former government was considering certain reforms that were required, figures such as Basil Rajapaksa did not allow them to do so, Weerawansa has further said.
