Don't make State Media a laundry, Sobitha Thera tells new Minister Featured

Media Minister Gayantha Karunatilleke has been told by the head priest of the Kotte Temple Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera to ensure that the State Media is not a place to wash the dirty linen of government politicians like it was under the government of toppled President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Ven Maduluwawe Sobitha made the remarks today (January 16) while presiding over at a ceremony to mark Minister Karunatilleke's first day in office.

He cautioned the Minister not to leave any room for the people to be fed-up with his Ministry in the same way they were sick and tired of his predecessor.

Outgoing Media Minister of the Rajapaksa government Keheliya Rambukwella was also present on the occasion and could only embarrassingly grim and bear the remarks made by Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera.

Minister Karunatilleke assured journalists present on the occasion that he will not allow the Media to be exploited and undermined and appealed to several journalists who left the country in the face of death threats to return.

He said his ministry will fall in line with the 100-day pledge and ensure a clean Media ministry.
