The ballot papers depict the symbol of a trishaw for Maithripala Sirisena (as opposed to the correct symbol of a swan) while depicting a cross in front of the Betel leaf, which is the symbol of the incumbent president.
Meanwhile, in another ballot paper, the betel leaf is depicted in black with a cross in front of the swan symbol. This fake ballot paper also depicts the symbol of an elephant for Sirithunga Jayasuriya (as opposed to the correct symbol of a trishaw.
Police say that they seized the stock of these ballot papers although the persons distributing them had escaped.
Meanwhile, former deputy minister of Buddha Sasana & Religious Affairs, M.K.D.S. Gunewardana expressed his disapproval over the police being unable to arrest groups distributing fake ballot papers.
