The step has been taken in view of the breakdown of Norochcholai thermal power plant, as a result of which 900 mw of electricity has been lost to the national grid.

The power-cut will be in force for 2 1/2 hours from 8.00am - 6.00pm with one hour from 6.00pm - 10.00pm.

In addition to the Colombo city limits, the power cut will not be imposed on main Hospitals in the island as well.

Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya requests the public to use electricity sparingly.
