The victim, 28 year old Dinesh Aravinda Nissanka, was unmarried and a air-conditioning technician by profession.
Giving evidence yesterday (22), Kulasekara said he had been passing Kirillawala area, maintaining a speed of around 50 kmph, when suddenly he saw something coming towards him from the way of the island in the middle of the road.
He tried to veer away, but that thing struck the car, he said, adding he applied brakes immediately.
He saw from his side mirror that people were gathering and a person had fallen, and blood coming from his head.
Feeling afraid, he went to a shop and remained there until police came.
After police did their duty, Kulasekara said he went with them to the police station and gave a statement.
He said that the incident could not have been avoided, as it happened so suddenly.
But, as a good citizen, he said he would ensure justice for Nissanka’s family.
His mother Chammi Nissanka said both her son and Kulasekara studied at Ranpokunugama Maha Vidyalaya.
Nissanka was a cricket fanatic and knew Kulasekara, she added.
