Basil’s property: FCID request put off Featured

The FCID could not go ahead with a request to Pugoda magistrate’s court yesterday (22) to confiscate the Gampaha, Malwana property said to have been owned by ex-minister Basil Rajapaksa.

As chief magistrate Ruwan Pathirana was on leave, district court judge Sanjeewa Somaratne put off the hearing until October 04.

Basil is accused of misusing state money on the 17-acre land and the house constructed there.

The government’s valuation of the property at no. 111/03 Pugoda, Malwana is Rs. 200.3 million.

On 25 November 2010, a relative of Basil had bought the land for Rs. 64 million and built a house.

Later, the relative had sold it to architect Muditha Jayakody, who has told the FCID that he owned the house built with Basil’s money.
