Eight trade unions of Sri Lanka customs including Customs Executive Officers Union, Customs Superintendents Union, All Sri Lanka Customs Services Union and Customs Inspectors Union are engaged in the trade union action, a leading member of the Customs Commissioners’ Union said.
He noted that the Finance Minister was implementing a plan to hand over Customs duties to the private sector and trade unions vehemently protest the move.
He said the government should tell the people as to why the present Customs Ordinance is going to be replaced with a new one.
The members of their unions would stick to eight hour duty without doing overtime during the work to rule campaign period, he said.
