The car said to have belonged to MP Namal Rajapaksa and seized by the FCID does not belong to the category which can be imported with MPs’ duty free vehicle license, said cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne.

The around Rs. 15 million duty due for the vehicle has not been paid, he said.

He told the media yesterday (07) that investigations were underway into the matter.

That will help determine the identities of persons with whom Namal has had connections, said the minister.

A lawyer for Namal has said the Ford Mustang was bought with the duty free vehicle allowance in 2010 and then sold to a businessman.
