Government sector workers including senior state officials and governors openly engaging in election campaigning is quite an unfortunate situation,  election monitoring bodies say.

Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, Executive Director of CaFFE, Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon has said that many state officials are apparently paying no heed to the Elections Commissioner who had directed that state sector workers should not join election campaigning activities.

Tennakoon had further said that elections officials had failed to prevent the present situation from taking place.

The participation of Defence Secretary - Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Finance Ministry Secretary - P.B. Jayasundara at today's (29) Galle meeting 'Mahinda Chinthana -  Lowa Dinana Maga 2020 Galle' is a clear violation of election regulations, the CaFFE Executive Director said. The meeting was organised by MP Manusha Nanayakkara.
