Speaking, a spokesman of the party said that the it is highly likely that the decision would be in favour of the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

Meanwhile, SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem has said to 'BBC Sandeshaya' that Minister Basil Rajapaksa has held discussions with the party yesterday (27).

Although the government as well as the common opposition are keenly holding discussions with the SLMC, a host of ministers including Basil Rajapaksa have held discussions with the party on several occasions, he had added.

Noting that the SLMC is observing the government's response over certain issues that should be resolved, Hakeem has further added that the final decision would be taken after discussing with the politburo of the party.
