JVP criticises using military in politics

JVP criticises using military in politics Featured

Using the military for the upcoming Presidential election is a grave situation, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

He was speaking at a JVP rally in Vavuniya yesterday (27), which is the party's first rally held in the Northern Province targeting the presidential election.

The JVP leader said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is using the military for political activities in a manner that was unheard of in the past.

Even though the war is over, the President has failed to provide solutions to the issues faced by the people of the North, Dissanayake said adding that the war has widowed 45,000 mothers in the region.

No parents
While there are around 2,500 children in the region who had lost their parents, the media is strongly suppressed within the country to keep the doings of the President's own children from being exposed.
