This has come to light in the course of investigations into alleged irregularities in the purchase of MiGs for the AF.

The middleman for these deals had been a serving AF official, say AF sources.

MiGs are manufactured by Russia and Ukraine, but the aircraft had been bought from a Singaporean company, also with the involvement of a Bangladeshi.

The Colombo Fort magistrate court has ordered the FCID to investigate and report into the disappearance of the key documents pertaining to these purchases.

The police have also been told to take legal action against those responsible.
