Joint opposition MP Dullas Alahapperuma made the comment in response to a question raised by Sri Lanka Mirror over the new organizer appointments.
In 1956, SWRD Bandarnaike broke away from the UNP and formed the SLFP, and today the SLFP is broken into pieces to form the UNP, he charged.
A struggle by a majority in the joint opposition to prevent a divison of the SLFP was overpowered by this move, he said.
Pavitra Wanniarachchi, one of the organizers to be removed, said this would further weaken the party.
Keheliya Rambukwella, who suffered the same fate, said he had expected this to happen a long time ago.
Another, CB Ratnayake, said he still could not comprehend the decision to remove them.
Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Gamini Lokuge, Jagath Balasuriya and Sarath Kumara Gunaratne also lost their organizer positions.

Meanwhile, their replacements are mostly youths.
New organizer for Eheliyagoda Sarath Sandanayake said their appointments would strengthen the SLFP at grassroots level.
Hemal Gunasekara, appointed to Weligama, said he expected all to unite, irrespective of political differences.
Kalutara organizer Hasitha Gunasekara said he would make maximum use of the opportunity given to serve the people.
The SLFP today appointed 13 electoral organizers and 24 district organizers.
