Raviraj killer Charan’s file stolen?

Raviraj killer Charan’s file stolen?

There is still no response to a CID’s request through the Attorney General’s Department more than a year ago to obtain mutual legal assistance (MLA) for the arrest and deportation of Sivakanthan Vivekanandan alias Swiss Charan, who is the main suspect in the murder of MP Nadaraja Raviraj and lives in Switzerland.

Lawyers at Hulftsdorp say that ‘Swiss Charan’ has broken into the AG’s Department and stolen the relevant file.

When asked, a top official of the department said, “MLA requests cannot be made in a hurry. That should be done after reviewing the relevant country’s laws. Normally, it takes six months to one year to do that. That particular file is being handled by the son of a former chief justice. He may be slow, but the work is being done properly. Don’t worry. It will be done within days.”

The Colombo magistrate’s court has decided that there was adequate evidence to file action in the high court against the suspects in the Raviraj killing.

Pillayan’s supporters

The CID has submitted indictments against two Navy men, a policeman and two close supporters of former east chief minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan.

The two Pillayan supporters, Swiss Charan and Palanasamy Suresh, have fled the country.

Raviraj was gunned down in front of the Army Hospital in Narahenpita in 2006.
