Chief prelates requested to advise political leaders

Chief prelates requested to advise political leaders Featured

The ‘March 12’ movement calls on the chief prelates of the three Buddhist  chapters to advise political leaders to give nominations only to qualified persons for the upcoming local government polls.

The chief prelates exercise considerable powers to ensure that the important decision-making in the country takes place in the correct manner, it says.

At the upcoming LG polls, voters will not be able to make choices to their liking as the election is to be held under a mixed system.

Therefore, the political leadership at the mainstream, district and electoral levels should be urged to give nominations only to the qualified persons, ‘March 12’ emphasizes.

Therefore, parties should prepare and declare their yardsticks for the selection of their candidates, it urges.

The movement is to meet with chief prelates of the Malwatte and Ramanna Nikayas tomorrow (02) to discuss this matter further.
