Speaking at a media briefing to celebrate the milestone, Swiss ambassador Heinz Walker-Nederkoorn reflected on the strength of the nations’ diplomatic ties while praising the new administration.
“The government is following a comprehensive transition focusing on democracy, reconciliation and development. Switzerland supports this,” he said. “After the war, the root causes of the conflict were not really addressed. The new government’s mission is to address these,” he said.
The ambassador also said that all citizens should take responsibility for reconciliation, not just the government.
The ambassador also announced the the Swiss Food Festival which will be held this week.

The Sunset Chalet aptly named to complement ‘A Taste of Switzerland ' creates an intimate atmosphere dressed up in traditional Swiss Treicheln bells and the 26 canton flags adorning the walls.
Traditional Swiss music will come alive with saxophone and flute artist Franziska Meyer. inspired mainly by Soul music in the likes of Quincy Jones, Crusaders, The Soul Committee and Billie Holiday, she is a First Rated Winner at the State of Missouri Music Competition.
Franziska is no stranger to Sri Lanka as she has been visiting the island for the past 12 years and built a fan base for herself. She will be joined by Adi Recht, a musician who plays the famous Swiss instrument ‘The Alphorn', a 9 ft long wooden instrument carved from a single log. This was initially used to call with its long reaching sound across the valley to communicate with others on the neighboring Alps.
