As such there are close to 800 unclaimed containers of sugar at the harbor premises, Sri Lanka Customs sources say.
Furthermore it had been extremely difficult for importers to get their sugar consignments released due to excessive inspections by Sri Lanka Customs officials since the coke bust took place on June 14.
However it is learnt that if the sugar consignments are not released soon these stocks would not be in a consumable state as it they are perishable goods.
