A weekend newspaper had reported the President as to saying during last week's Cabinet meeting that Dr. Kalansooriya was a dangerous man who is attempting to drive a wedge between himself and the Prime minister.

Dr. Kalansooriya had handed over the resignation after the President's side had not refuted this claim, reports say.

Refusing to accept the resignation, the President had asked him not to take things in newspapers too seriously.

However, the President had also warned Dr. Kalansooriya to be careful as State Intelligence had declared that there are individuals attempting to create trouble within the Information Department.
