Minister D.M. Swaminathan, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and deputy minister Karunaratne Paranawithana undertook the visit.
Thereafter, Swaminathan told the media that no Sinhala-Tamil clash has taken place in the campus as claimed.
A small group working against student harmony is behind all the trouble, he said, adding that they discussed measures for the reopening of the university.
Paranawithana said it transpired at meetings with the university senate, as well as student unions and Sinhala students that it was only a clash between students.
However, the Front-line Socialist Party says the science faculty clash three days ago was the outcome of political tensions in Jaffna.
FSP politburo member Duminda Nagamuwa said at a media briefing today that it was a misinterpretation of the truth to say racism was not involved.
That will not give protection, and the failure to identify the ailment will prevent the proper treatment, he added.
