The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had investigated the links but the probe had later taken a back seat.

CID sources told The Sunday Leader that the CID has now been ordered to launch a fresh investigation into the case.

Initial investigations had revealed that Wele Suda had given money to construct a new house for the former IGP.

Wele Suda also had close links with the former parliamentarian who himself was connected to drugs smuggling and other forms of crime.
