President Maithripala Sirisena last Thursday met her at her residence to discuss the dispute he was having with prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Kumaratunga has advised him not to allow this matter to ruin the government and give advantage to the Rajapaksas.
She also noted Wickremesinghe needed the support of only a few MPs to form a government.
The ex-president promised to mediate in the issue, and on the following day, invited the PM to her house and settled the matter.
She has noted to Wickremesinghe that continuation of the dispute would be unfair by those who were instrumental in forming the present government.
Accordingly, the PM consented to the name of Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy to be the new CB governor, about whom he later discussed with the president and reached agreement.
