He has also decided not to contest the post at the annual election.

Sumathipala held the post for ten years from 2005 to 2015 in the association which has a 95-year history.

Sumathipala is said to have nominated his deputy Praneeth Abeysundera who is a senior professor at the Sri Jayawardenapura University to succeed him in the post.
