As many as 5000 new websites and Facebook accounts had been set up with the motive of providing fake and misleading information in the run-up to next month's Presidential election, the Information Communication and Technological Association (ICTA) director Athula Pushpakumara told the media.
The websites are operated from overseas and the motive is to gain self-centred political mileage in the run up to the election on January 8.
Meanwhile head of the Computer Emergency Reaction Unit Roshan Chandragupta has called on the public having any complaints against the rogue websites and Social media Facebook to contact him on 011-2691692 for immediate action.
