6 month extension of FCID’s term

6 month extension of FCID’s term Featured

There are no moves to disband the FCID, said cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne.

He said no barrier existed for the extension of its term, as it was still conducting investigations into the complaints it has received.

Senaratne is responding to a claim by JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti that he had been told by FCID officers that the unit was to be disbanded.

Handunnetti also said the official identity cards of FCID officers were not to be renewed.

Deputy minister Karunaratne Paranawithana also responded, saying the term of the FCID would definitely be extended by six months.

The government has taken a policy decision to continue with the unit, and there would be no disruptions to its investigations, he said.
