A large amount of ammunition imported from China for the war had been left unused, and a small country like Sri Lanka did not have facilities to store some of them, say the sources.
Therefore, the ammunition was to be sold back to the country from which it was bought.
A Chinese company by the name Norinco has agreed to buy the ammunition and even had made an inspection tour here.
As per a cabinet paper approved on 07 April 2016, they were to be sold for 150 million US dollars though the state-owned Lanka Logistic and Technologies Ltd.
Therefore, it is suspicious that the ammo dump had caught fire at a time when the ammunition was to be sold back to China
