Over 40 million date gone through in Lasantha murder probe Featured

CID specialists have so far gone through telephone conversation data amounting to more than 40 million in the course of their investigation into the murder of senior journalists Lasantha Wickramatunga.

They have been able to reveal details of five Army intelligence members, including a colonel, connected to ‘The Sunday Leader’ editor’s killing inside Attidiya high security zone on 08 January 2009.

According to information received by us, these men had operated from an Army intelligence unit at Muttiah Road, Colombo.

By arresting them soon, police hope to uncover hitherto unknown details of the murder.

Information received so far indicate that separate teams had spied on Lasantha, ambushed and murdered him.

His killing probe was pushed under the carpet during the previous regime, but with the government change, investigations have resumed.

However, those directly responsible for the murder are yet to be apprehended.
